This jewel from the island of Cyprus, around 1300 BC, is a stylized representation of a boat.
Marcade (1973:17, Fig. 2) describes an almost identical item:
boat shaped earrings, of which we show an example from Kuklia, were highly prized. They are not always as plain as these, which stretch from the hanging line without any embellishments
Maier (1969:122, Fig. 128) also describes a similar item: Palaepaphos. Gold earrings in the shape of a small boat. The over elongated extremities overlap. Recent Cyprus III B, 1190-1150 BC. Long. 3,7 cm et 4 cm, Cyprus Museum, Nicosie. KTE VIII.
Tait (1991:39, Fig. 59) also describes a similar item: A group of gold Cypro Mycenaean jewelry excavated at Enkomi, Cyprus in 1896. The two pairs of earrings are dated to the 14th or 13th century BC. One pair (59) is of leech shape.
