This proto-Corinthian vessel is a pyriform aryballos (a form of vessel used to hold oils and perfumes). The geometric decoration is of black and white pigment engraved with alternating straight and wavy lines. Greece, Corinth, 7th Century BC.
These perfume vessels offer a narrow neck and a wide lip which could be used to spread the fragrant oils on the skin. They are typical of Corinthian ceramics (Spiteris:1965).
