Vessel with spout, 2nd millenium BC

This dark red and black terracotta jug presents an ovoid body, a slender tapered neck and a flaring mouth. A simple handle arches from shoulder to mouth. The decoration consists of three rows of dotted triangles, plus a dotted band at the shoulder. There may have been white pigment in the incisions. Probably Phoenicia, 17th century BC.
The arrival of the Hyksos upset the whole middle east. Although this occupation lasted barely over one year, it put an end to Egyptian influences and brought new shapes, particularly with terracotta (Parrot, et al.1975:71).
